Educational projects: share your knowledge

Join one of our many teaching missions abroad to fulfill your desire for cultural immersion, meaningful engagement, and new connections!

These missions take place primarily in schools, daycare centers, or local educational centers. The educational programs are designed for children and local communities.

With Freepackers, embark on teaching and outreach missions in a safe, ethical, and meaningful environment, in collaboration with local NGOs and trusted partner organizations.

What kind of educational project are you looking for?

Educational assignments can be divided into two categories: teaching and youth work. In both cases, you will contribute to the education and learning of young children in a foreign country. Working within educational institutions such as daycare centers, preschools, or local schools, you will work with children and teenagers aged 3 to 15.

Teaching Assignments Abroad

In these assignments, participants teach a subject while adapting their approach to the students’ level. This may include:

  • English (French or other languages)
  • Math
  • Geography
  • The arts
  • Life skills
  • Simple content tailored to children of different ages

Teaching assignments are more demanding because participants are responsible for preparing lessons, developing content, organizing materials, and creating a fun and engaging learning experience. Local coordinators and teachers, of course, help with lesson preparation.

Your role and responsibilities will be determined by your profession, experience, or skills. For teaching assignments, preference will be given to participants who already have experience working with children or who hold a teaching degree or BAFA certification, and they will always be supervised by local teachers in the classroom. Participants without experience will be directed toward animation assignments. Assignments are also based on language proficiency and availability (often 4 weeks minimum).

Youth Activities and Supervision

Other projects are more focused on youth activities. The goal here is to supervise children, often younger ones, through:

  • Games
  • Creative workshops (drawing, singing, etc.)
  • Sports
  • Outdoor activities
  • Early learning and socialization activities

Here, the focus is not solely on academics. It is also about creating a supportive, stimulating environment that is tailored to young people who may come from disadvantaged backgrounds. These assignments can be shorter in duration than more demanding teaching assignments.

As with teaching assignments, you will work alongside local teachers to supervise, lead activities, and interact with the children.

Complete a Teaching Internship with Real Step

For those looking to develop their professional skills and pursue careers in education, Real Step offers professional internships. During these educational projects, you will take on greater responsibilities and gain hands-on experience in a real-world learning environment with international students.

For students, this can be part of the transition from school to the workforce, helping to enhance their education before taking a competitive exam, starting a work-study program, securing a future position, or searching for a job in education.

Browse our teaching internships on this page to see all our student internship opportunities based on your level of study and degree.

What exactly do volunteers do on site?

A volunteer’s role varies depending on the type of project, the children’s ages, the country, and the needs of the host organization.

Teaching responsibilities:

  • Prepare lessons
  • Teach English, math, or other academic subjects
  • Use hands-on and engaging teaching methods
  • Help students make steady progress at their own pace
  • Support local teachers

Animation activities:

  • Supervise groups of children
  • Lead games and workshops
  • Assist during mealtimes
  • Help stimulate children’s development through workshops
  • Organize sports activities
  • Contribute to a positive atmosphere within the facilities

The idea is not to replace a teacher, but to provide a practical supplement to their education to enhance learning and validate what they have learned.

Where can I go for a teaching volunteer mission?

There are many opportunities for educational projects, with projects located across four continents: Croatia, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Peru, Laos, Spain, Colombia, Madagascar, Cambodia, South Africa, Portugal, Argentina, Costa Rica, Morocco, and Thailand. For a more complete overview of the countries where you can volunteer, visit the website.

With such a wide variety of programs available, you can choose one based on language, training, duration, or the target audience. Feel free to contact our team, who will help you select a program tailored to your needs.

Requirements for Participation

For Volunteers: What Matters Most

  • Your level of English or the language required for the project
  • Your availability
  • Your experience working with children
  • Your motivation to participate in a meaningful mission
  • Your willingness to show respect and engage with local communities

This type of mission is particularly well-suited for volunteers who enjoy interacting with people, leading activities, and working directly with children.

Freepackers: Ethics, Framework, and Long-Term Commitment

We emphasize an important point: the genuine impact of the mission. Freepackers highlights only projects that have a real impact on local communities.

We do not offer missions in orphanages; our educational missions take place exclusively in schools or daycare centers. This approach is guided by a commitment to child protection and ensures that all programs are ethical.

Finally, our approach is focused on the long term and emphasizes local continuity. The more thoroughly planned and consistent the training is, the more beneficial it is for everyone.

Comprehensive support is provided on-site, with coordinators available to assist you at any time. A training session is scheduled on your first day to help you gradually get up to speed.

A teaching volunteer mission allows you to share your knowledge, support others, and learn along the way. It’s a tangible way to contribute to an educational project abroad. Combining learning, youth outreach, and global engagement, our teaching projects offer a meaningful opportunity to make a difference!
