Educational project in schools in Chiang Mai

Educational project in schools in Chiang Mai

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This humanitarian action in Thailand involves working alongside students in various schools as an English course facilitator. We assist several child development centers, kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools catering to students aged 2.5 to 18 years.

Upon registration, you will have the choice between the Child Care project or the Teaching project, which cater to different age groups, namely kindergarten or primary school.

PROJECT DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS:

During these periods, you can participate in holiday camps and English workshops that are regularly requested by the local community. If the local child development center is involved at that time, remember that you will be working with young children who require a different approach compared to primary or secondary school students.

Be creative! Children enjoy songs, dances, and games. You will have the freedom to bring your own ideas and initiatives to share your knowledge and culture with the children. Individuals with a BAFA qualification or teaching experience will be particularly sought after for these assignments.

Prior to heading to the mission site, you will work with local coordinators to review the lessons, materials, and educational activities for the day, ensuring the continuity of classes for the children.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES:

Our teaching program has a dual objective: to help children in rural areas of Thailand speak and learn English (as often their teachers are not fluent in English themselves).

Additionally, it provides you with insight into the Thai education system, allowing you to discover what they learn and how. It is also a great opportunity to build connections with students and teachers and to share and create common memories.

SCHEDULE AND TYPICAL DAY:

Monday to Friday:

Classes can be held in the morning or afternoon, depending on the school and its conditions. Here is an example of a typical day on the project:

  • Breakfast at the center
  • English classes for children
  • Lunch
  • Lesson preparation for the next day with the team
  • Dinner at the center

You will leave the volunteer accommodation between 08:00 and 09:00, depending on the school. The classes you teach will last 3 hours and will be scheduled in the morning or afternoon, based on the available time slot and the school’s schedule.

Some days, you will be teaching children both in the morning and afternoon. Lunch is usually served at the school or center, depending on the planned program. You will work alongside other teachers and instructors in the classroom, where you can also help create lesson plans and organize activities.

In the afternoon, you will prepare your lessons and planned activities for the next day at the volunteer house between 13:00 and 15:00. Weekends are free.

This schedule may be subject to change and/or modifications based on weather conditions, local circumstances, or unforeseen events.
