For solo travelers, a humanitarian trip is ideal because it encourages meaningful connections. Whether it's an educational, community-based, or women's rights project, you are never really traveling alone on a humanitarian project. You'll always be with a group, fully immersed! If you prefer to travel in a group, these projects are also well-suited for a shared experience with the local community.

Humanitarian missions with Freepackers: a definition

Freepackers' mission: to open up international mobility to everyone. To allow everyone to commit to a project that matches their values, and to play an active, engaged role.

To do this, we organise humanitarian missions with you. A reminder: unlike humanitarian aid projects, which involve one-off emergency relief set up during an exceptional crisis or a natural disaster, a humanitarian mission is a sustainable development project that covers the social, economic and environmental aspects. It relies above all on collaborative work with local communities.

A humanitarian mission therefore means all the solidarity missions that help improve the living conditions of a community. The audience is broad, and there are a great many experiences to be had!

Freepackers experiences encourage exchange and sharing. We believe our projects should lead to learning: a different culture, new encounters, the discovery of different traditions, and above all exchange. Open-mindedness is the key word of a humanitarian mission!

Concrete examples of humanitarian missions with Freepackers

• Missions with children: tutoring, sport, activities, giving access to English lessons, etc.
• Women's empowerment: workshops, discussions, meetings, exchanges, support campaigns, etc.
• Renovation, work camp and rebuilding missions (often open to young people and groups)

Whatever humanitarian mission and country you choose, you will contribute to a variety of initiatives and experiences during your holidays.

We also offer immersive experiences to live at the pace of a local community whose culture is very different from the one we know. It is a chance to discover a new way of life and to meet many people, as in the heart of the Maasai tribe in Tanzania!

Where can you go on a humanitarian mission?

Freepackers humanitarian projects are spread across the whole globe! Asia, Africa, the Americas or Oceania: the experiences on offer are as numerous as they are unique. You can go to a great many countries, because our network of partner associations and organisations is international.

The one thing they have in common: we know all the host organisations personally, and we have visited most of these projects and/or destinations in person. Our team goes on site regularly, so you can travel the world with ease. We guide you towards projects that suit exactly what you want, thanks to our in-depth knowledge of volunteering projects.

For all our community projects, we ask for at least an intermediate level of English or Spanish depending on the destination (B1 minimum). Communication is a key part of these programmes, and understanding and being understood by local people is essential to get the full benefit of the project. If you need to brush up, we can arrange language lessons on arrival or online before you leave for your humanitarian mission.
