2024 Carbon Footprint: Freepackers Takes Action for the Climate and Biodiversity!
We have just completed our 2024 carbon footprint assessment, an important milestone that helps us measure our impact and continue moving towards more responsible travel.
✅ Our emissions: 2,111 tCO₂e/year
34 tCO₂e come from our offices and the energy consumed by our team (commuting, heating, electricity, etc.).
2,077 tCO₂e come primarily from our volunteers’ travel, as well as our purchases and digital activities.
What matters most: although travel accounts for the majority of our emissions, every volunteer also creates a positive impact on local communities and the environment.
Our ambitions for the next five years
🌎 Climate Action Freepackers
2026: Achieve B Corp recertification under the new V2 standards.
2027: Reduce emissions related to business travel by 20%.
2030: Reduce emissions per participant by 30% by encouraging longer stays and promoting programs accessible by train or bus.
🌿 Biodiversity Action Freepackers
2027: Integrate biodiversity education into 100% of our environmental internship and volunteer programs.
2030: Publish an annual biodiversity report with the support of scientists and NGO partners.
Together with our volunteers, partners, and team, we want to demonstrate that international engagement can go hand in hand with meaningful positive impact and a genuine reduction in our carbon footprint. 🌍
