Families

Our ecotourism projects for families

Most environmental projects can be adapted for families. These assignments are suitable for both adults and children and provide a rich experience to be enjoyed with loved ones. Projects that are considered more fun, such as nature projects, permaculture or the restoration of natural habitats, guarantee hands-on learning and environmental awareness for tomorrow's citizens.

In a group or solo

Our ecotourism projects for groups or individuals

In a group, it is an opportunity to work with qualified and experienced supervisors. You will be working together on a common project, sometimes with different tasks, depending on the size of your group. As for solo travellers, they are never really alone! From the very beginning of the assignment, you are part of a multicultural team with whom you share your experiences, your daily life, and your free time.

ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEER PROJECTS WITH FREEPACKERS

What is environmental volunteering?

Environmental volunteering refers to work and time people willingly give to help benefit the environment. They engage in a variety of activities ranging from monitoring wildlife and environmental patterns to raising awareness and educating communities on sustainable practices. By volunteering for the environment you will not only be benefiting the world but will also learn new skills, experience a new culture and make incredible memories!

What is sustainable development?

Sustainable development means meeting the needs of today’s society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It has three pillars: social, economic and environmental. Our projects strive to take all three aspects into account by integrating awareness-raising and networking workshops. Working with local communities, and showing them that the process is beneficial, is the guarantee of a sustainable commitment to the protection of ecosystems.

Environmental protection

Environmental protection is a particularly broad field. It covers all ecosystems, both terrestrial and marine, and there are many ways to protect them. Freepackers’ assignments range from the renovation of infrastructures with a more ecological objective to land development, depollution, reforestation, etc. The environment constitutes a global commitment, and participants come from all over the world to join these projects! It is a time to interact and share with a team united around the same values.

What to expect from environmental volunteering programs

Every volunteer program is different, but there are some similarities. With every environmental volunteer program, you will be making a real impact. With some programs you will be staying in a hostel, while others will have you immersed in the community living in a home stay. Generally, you will have the first day or so to get to know the area and the culture. You will then start with the volunteer work which could range from data collection while scuba diving to harvesting coffee! Some programs will have you teaching and playing with village children in the afternoons as well! No matter which program you choose, rest assured you will learn new skills and make memories to last a lifetime!

Environmental volunteer project examples

Freepackers offers projects that combine cultural immersion, ecotourism, discovering a new country, and a commitment to environmental protection. Through these missions, participants work towards preserving local ecosystems! Join a multicultural team and contribute to sustainable development. Some concrete examples of environmental projects with Freepackers include marine conservation, protection and study of marine mammals and birds, beach cleaning, coral restoration, environmental conservation, restoration of natural habitats, pollution control, waste treatment, farm experiences, discovering new agricultural methods in organic farms, permaculture techniques, eco-centers, etc.

All of these ecotourism missions are shared with a multicultural team and also provide access to new cultures through collaboration with local communities. For those who are eager for immersive experiences in nature, environmental expeditions are also possible, such as in the heart of the rainforest in Costa Rica!

Specifically, we offer you missions that have a lasting impact on ecosystems across all continents. Each project is verified beforehand to ensure the coherence of the values we transmit and defend, and to allow you to have the richest possible experience. Whether you want to go to Europe, America, Asia, Africa or Oceania, we accompany you throughout the duration of your mission as part of ecotourism!

How and where should I volunteer for environmental causes?

Currently, the main threats to the environment are all man-made and the rate at which the Earth is being destroyed is faster than the rate at which it is recovering. That means it is crucial we do anything we can to help! There are lots of ways and places to volunteer.

  • Local organisations organising clean-up events, tree planning activities, etc.
  • International organisations and volunteer programs helping people get involved in environmental projects
  • Wildlife centres helping to rehabilitate injured animals and promote animal welfare and sustainable conservation practices

Freepackers can help you get involved with projects that you are passionate about all around the world! These projects are hands-on and you will be able to actually see the effects on the community you are working with!
