Upcycling volunteer program in Lisbon

Description

Ready to give resources a second life while making a social impact?

Join a circular economy volunteering programme in Lisbon, where environmental protection and social inclusion come together around a shared goal: reducing waste while supporting local communities.

Alongside several local NGOs, you will take part in upcycling textiles and materials, transforming waste recovered from the ocean, as well as sorting and redistributing clothing, food, furniture and essential supplies.

A hands-on experience to discover the circular economy and take action for both the planet and local communities.

Why take part?

Portugal faces major challenges related to food waste and plastic pollution. In Lisbon, these environmental issues are also accompanied by social inequalities and limited access to certain essential goods.

By giving resources a second life and redistributing surplus items, partner organisations help reduce waste while providing practical support to local communities.

Your missions:

  • Upcycling and creating objects from recovered materials
  • Sorting, preparing and distributing donations
  • Upcycling textiles and waste
  • Taking part in community activities
  • Caring for and recovering abandoned plants

Volunteers take part in activities for up to 5 hours per day, depending on the needs of the organisations, with a minimum of 2 days off.

Once There

Your accommodation

Accommodations are provided by local partners and not by Freepackers. The descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that the conditions may vary on-site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match exactly the description or images displayed on this site, for example, in cases of annex housing, renovation, relocation, etc.

The house does not have air conditioning, but it is a beach house with large windows that are opened and closed daily by the housekeeping team.
There are lockers under each bunk bed for volunteers, who only need a padlock to secure them.

Minors have a curfew if they do not have permission from their guardian to leave the house, which is at 10 PM.

Meals are prepared every day, consisting of local cuisine, but it is possible to accommodate specific dietary requirements upon request (vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, etc.)
