We provide wildlife conservation assignments tailored to young people. The emphasis is on empowerment and raising awareness of animal welfare in the community. More hands-on work is carried out on a daily basis, supervised by professional animal caretakers, such as restoring enclosures, studying behaviour, caring for animals, etc. This is an opportunity for young people to discover a new culture, understand the issues and learn different methods of animal protection.
Wildlife projects are also ideal for family trips, raising awareness of wildlife protection challenges for young and old participants alike. Different assignments are allocated according to each person's skills, ensuring that each age group benefits from a valuable experience. On these projects, children are also given a safe space and there is specific supervision adapted to families.

Our wildlife projects for a group or solo!
Many wildlife programmes are adapted to groups, especially the shelter placements, which involve a series of team work camps. Wildlife projects are also an opportunity to go it alone, to join a multicultural team where different conservation techniques will be put into practice in the field! You will never really be alone, constantly surrounded by other participants, the local population and the team on site.
Sustainable tourism and wildlife projects with Freepackers: a definition
Freepackers offers missions that let you travel as part of sustainable tourism while acting to protect species all over the world. This may mean contributing to the conservation of one particular species or of a group of species, depending on our local partners' projects. Wildlife projects teach you the right actions and conservation techniques for healthy coexistence between people and animals.
Wildlife projects are also a place for exchange with the local community, notably through workshops raising awareness of the issues around conserving the region's species. It is the perfect mix of a wildlife experience, out in nature, and immersion in a culture. You also join a multicultural team, with participants from all over the world who have come to the project with the same aim of discovery and commitment. The supervising team specialises in conservation issues and will tell you everything you need to know to carry out your project as part of sustainable tourism!
Concrete examples of wildlife projects with Freepackers
- Animal care: with big cats in South Africa, marine species such as sea turtles in Costa Rica, or in an animal shelter, etc.
- Farm experience: on ranches in Australia or Canada, etc.
The experiences are varied because many species are involved in Freepackers projects. Some missions are remote, to be as close as possible to the species' natural environment, such as big cats in South Africa, elephants in Thailand or pumas in Argentina. Others are in urban areas, such as dog shelters, again to be as close as possible to the animals targeted by the rescue work, in this case stray dogs in Sri Lanka.
Where can you go for sustainable tourism on a wildlife project with Freepackers?
Species in need of protection are everywhere: close to home, in the neighbouring country or on the other side of the world, you can act to protect animals. Freepackers has therefore teamed up with local associations all over the world to act in as many regions as possible.
In particular, we are developing projects in Europe to offer experiences closer to home that are just as sustainable and ethical. We offer missions in Australia, Asia, Africa and South America.
Our missions are nonetheless located across these continents according to need, for example along the coasts of Costa Rica and Guatemala for turtle protection, as part of sustainable tourism.
