Husky project in Swedish Lapland

Your tasks at the farm will mainly revolve around the huskies.

• You will clean their enclosures and outdoor areas
• You will take care of water buckets, feed, and brush the animals
• You will be responsible for walking them and, of course, giving them cuddles!
• You will also perform household tasks such as cooking and cleaning the guest house
• Participation in repair and renovation work will also be required. You might also be asked to perform transfers.

The first task in the morning is to light the fire to heat the house. Then, the dogs are fed. Once the animals have been taken care of, everyone has breakfast together and the daily routine is explained to the guests.

Then, the rest of the work begins. In summer, you will play outside with the huskies or guide guests through the programme. In winter, however, the dogs are harnessed to the sled, and everything is prepared for an excursion. Most of the work will involve accompanying guests or playing with the dogs.

In the evening, everyone gathers again for dinner, and the animals are fed a second time. Depending on the season, working hours may vary. You will have two days off per week. The schedule and tasks are provided on-site, and Konstantin ensures the schedule is fair for everyone.

Farm in Swedish Lapland

Your accommodation is either in the main building, a typical Swedish wooden farm, or in the adjacent guest house. The main building has two floors: the team lives on the upper floor, while volunteers and guests stay on the ground floor. You will share your room with up to three other volunteers (non-mixed). Wi-Fi is available. In the guest house, there is another shared room on the ground floor, while guests sleep on the upper floor. The workplace is on the same site, so there’s no need to commute.

A washing machine is available and free of charge on-site. Volunteers are also expected to take care of their own laundry, tidy up after themselves, and keep their room clean.

Meals

All meals are included. Volunteers participate in meal preparation, but a schedule indicates who is responsible each day. You will eat collectively in the dining room.

Groceries are bought by a member of the local team, usually with at least one volunteer, not only to help but also to allow them to discover Arjeplog.

Swedish Lapland is located in the far north of Europe. Our project is situated here, surrounded by picturesque landscapes: immense forests, crystal-clear lakes, and magnificent mountains await you!

In this remote corner, you can also experience wonderful natural spectacles, such as the midnight sun and the Northern Lights. Nature will surely inspire you, especially in winter, when the snowy landscapes transform into a true winter wonderland! In this wild, partially deserted expanse, you can enjoy a soothing calm.

With average temperatures of about 20 °C in summer and -20 °C in winter, the climate in Swedish Lapland is quite varied. But no matter the season, the forests and mountains are perfect for walks, hikes, and other activities. And what could be better than relaxing by the fire with a hot drink after a day in the snow?

Leisure opportunities in Sweden

Sweden offers many varied leisure activities. There are numerous national parks here where you can discover many animals and plants, such as moose. In general, you will find many green spaces where you can relax and admire the beauty of nature. If, on the other hand, you are more in the mood for physical activity, you also have many opportunities to do so here. For example, you can go canoeing, kayaking, skiing, hiking, swimming, or climbing.

In the capital, Stockholm, one-third of which is water, you can see many tourist attractions, but also fish and swim or stroll through one of the surrounding gardens and parks.
