Your role

Depending on the season and the local teams’ priorities, you may take part in:

  • Observing and recording biodiversity.
  • Group species surveys.
  • Removing invasive plants.
  • Wildfire prevention work.
  • Restoring and maintaining natural areas.
  • Collecting litter in conservation areas.
  • Planting and caring for native plant species.
  • Activities related to animals and land management.
  • Farm work and projects that support rural communities. The species present and the tasks on offer vary throughout the year. A typical week

In Porto: two days and one night

Your stay begins in Porto with an orientation session covering the programme, practical information and safety guidelines. A city tour opens your stay with some culture and a chance to get to know the other volunteers.

In the Greater Côa Valley

After the included transfer from Porto, you settle into your accommodation and join the local projects. Your days are built around conservation tasks and support for local communities.

For a two-week stay

You follow the same programme structure for a second week. The exact activities may change depending on needs and conditions on site.

Accommodation and meals

One night in Porto is planned at the start of your stay, then you stay in a dormitory on the project site. Meals on Monday in Porto are included. Other meals are at your own expense; how they are organised on site will be confirmed later.

An experience of nature and people

This stay is a chance to better understand the links between biodiversity, land management and local life. You build practical skills, learn to work as a team and discover the challenges facing rural areas. Group living encourages exchanges with the other participants and gives you plenty of chances to practise your English.
