This project welcomes families, so it is suitable for children from the age of 4 and for high school internships. Our advisors will provide personalized recommendations based on your children’s age, the destination, and the type of mission.
In Tanzania, assist this NGO in humanitarian education to improve the educational and healthcare systems since 2016 (access to clean water, vaccines, etc.). This project aims to support local teachers, contribute to children’s education by teaching them basic English, and stimulate them through games and sports. There will always be a professional on-site to guide and supervise students and volunteers.
The educational program in Zanzibar is a great way to get familiar with the local culture in a safe environment. By participating in this project, you will contribute to intercultural exchange and mutual enrichment. It is very rewarding to engage with children about your home country, roots, or traditions.
The days are divided into two parts: in the morning (8am–12pm), volunteers assist local teachers in schools, and the afternoons are dedicated to lesson planning independently.
Volunteers work with children and youth aged 5 to 14. We encourage you to bring school supplies with you: pencils, English books, photos/images to share with the children and create interactive activities within this NGO focused on humanitarian education.
This project supports several local public schools with various needs – teachers face overcrowded classrooms and limited resources.
Volunteers wishing to get involved in an additional project can participate, through the teaching program, in the Wake Up initiative, which offers English or theater classes in the evenings from 7pm to 9pm for teenagers and young adults in the neighborhood – ages 15 to 25.
Two sessions per week are open to volunteers. This initiative is highly appreciated by international volunteers, as it encourages interaction and exchange with the local community. Volunteers participate in several workshops with local youth facing academic challenges to help them improve their English and earn their diplomas.
To date, 200 local youths are enrolled in these educational and cultural workshops. Thanks to the volunteers, the 2-hour sessions offered free of charge by local teachers can be extended by an additional 2 hours, helping to optimize their learning.
School construction and renovation projects are also ongoing between June and August and can host international volunteers and student interns.
Still within the educational mission, it is also possible to co-lead the sports program at the local football club in the mornings or evenings (2 to 3-hour sessions) to combine multiple missions. The participating children are between 7 and 15 years old.

Upon your arrival at the airport, we recommend purchasing a SIM card at a nearby shop to stay connected, as the volunteer house does not have Wi-Fi.
A local coordinator will be waiting for you at the airport with a sign bearing your name and will drive you to your accommodation. The community projects and housing are located in Stone Town, about 30 minutes from the airport.
Sunday is a rest day, and on Monday morning you’ll start with an introductory Swahili class, a guided tour of the surroundings, and a presentation of the schedule and project. This will be an opportunity to meet the local team and all the volunteers.
In the volunteer house, rooms are gender-separated (boys and girls in separate rooms) and can accommodate up to 6 boys and 8 girls. A private room can be requested for an additional fee.
All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, mosquito nets, and lockable lockers. The rooms are cleaned daily.
The 2 bathrooms are shared (gender-separated) and have hot water.
Just a reminder, tap water is not drinkable!
A member of the local team is always present at the volunteer house to guide and assist you.
All meals are provided (local style) except for lunch on weekends. One of the most popular dishes is Biryani, originating from the Middle East and India.
Local transportation is also covered by the local team, but all amenities are within walking distance from the house.
The local organization recommends applying for a 90-day tourist visa, which can be extended up to 180 days on site. This visa is obtained upon arrival for USD 50. A currency exchange counter before Immigration at the airport allows you to get USD to pay for your visa (cash only).
It is also possible to apply online for a volunteer permit for Tanzania before arriving in the country, but you should allow at least 3 months for processing and a cost of USD 250.
