About Destination and Volunteer Opportunities

About Mozambique

Mozambique is a country in southeastern Africa. Its coastline along the Indian Ocean and the tropical climate make it an ideal destination for ocean lovers and divers. The coastline of Tofo is home to many rare species such as whale sharks, humpback whales, and manta rays. Besides breathtaking nature, Mozambique also offers magnificent sea excursions and scuba diving.

The capital city is Maputo, located in the south of Mozambique. Portuguese is the official language, though there are several indigenous languages that are commonly spoken, including Makhuwa, Tsonga, and Sena. Mozambique’s economy relies mainly on agriculture and mining, as well as their developing tourism industry.

Climate change has posed considerable challenges to Mozambique, as a country already prone to natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, and droughts.
