Our women’s empowerment programs are based on a simple approach: supporting women from disadvantaged backgrounds, strengthening their financial independence, and giving them greater control over their personal and professional lives.
As a volunteer, you’ll take part in meaningful humanitarian missions and have memorable encounters in a different cultural setting.
Our programs aim to:
In Sri Lanka, India, and Argentina, these programs address a specific need: providing English language training to women to help them enter the workforce.
While these initiatives primarily focus on language learning, they also address the fight against social conditioning, gender inequality, and the barriers that limit many women’s freedom of action.
In some cases, their personal histories, social environments, or the challenges they’ve faced require a respectful, gradual, and compassionate approach.
Depending on the program, you can:
In Sri Lanka, India, or Argentina, you’ll have the opportunity to play an important role. These humanitarian programs share a common foundation: providing practical tools to women who already possess skills but need support to take the next step.
In each case, the women and girls we support come from very modest backgrounds and have sometimes experienced violence. Your role will be to support them and provide them with knowledge in areas such as education, English, or computer skills.
It is all of these actions that will foster their independence, help them acquire the skills needed to accelerate their entry into the workforce, and promote their autonomy.
You can also go on an international internship and contribute to women’s empowerment in a different way. With RealStep, the goal is to gain more in-depth experience and train you for careers in humanitarian aid, environmental protection, or animal welfare through internships or certified training programs.
Check out our humanitarian internships on the RealStep website.
Your role is not to “save” these women, but to support them with respect. That is why this project is particularly suited to volunteers who can communicate effectively with women and are good listeners. It is important to be mentally prepared, as these women’s journeys can sometimes be painful.
Experience in teaching, facilitation, or social work can be helpful. It is essential to prepare thoroughly and organize your lesson content in advance to deliver high-quality sessions.
To allow time to build connections, establish a relationship of trust, and ensure effective follow-up with the women, it is recommended that you commit to a minimum of 4 weeks. Course materials are generally provided.
Key points:
By committing to a women’s empowerment program, you are taking part in a deeply human project that is closely attuned to the realities faced by local people.
Through classes, workshops, discussions, and a regular presence, you help strengthen the independence, confidence, and prospects of women seeking to build a freer and more stable life.
It’s not always the most visible actions that have the greatest impact. Sometimes, a conversation, a well-prepared workshop, a lively class, or a moment of shared joy becomes a true tool for transformation. That’s also what Freepackers missions are all about: humbly making a difference at the heart of a project that restores strength, freedom, and a new sense of purpose to those who need it most.
