The hippotherapy/equine therapy center is a government project in Argentina that provides free treatment for patients who cannot afford medical coverage, serving as an example of sustainable tourism. The movements generated by horseback riding help individuals with disabilities develop strength, balance, and confidence. Interacting with horses is also motivating and stimulating, promoting progress in social, communicative, and cognitive aspects.
Participants work alongside the staff to form a team that assists with horse care, therapy sessions, and various support tasks:
– Controlling the horse’s movements while patients ride.
– Walking alongside the horse to ensure safety.
– Participating in all activities led by the therapist.
– Cleaning, oiling, equipment checks, stable maintenance, horse care, etc.
Volunteers work on the project 5 days a week, exemplifying sustainable tourism, from Monday to Friday for 4 hours, either in the morning or afternoon. The program is located 30 km from the city of Córdoba. Volunteers can reach the site by bus in 35 minutes (40 AR$ per day).
Those interested can opt to take Spanish courses for a week in Córdoba before starting the project.
