Defense and Protection of Marine Funds in Spain

Protect Marine Ecosystems in Barcelona!

In this program, you will join a group of local and international volunteers with the goal of exploring, taking action, and protecting marine biodiversity. You will dive to help local organizations safeguard the seabed in Spain.

Program Highlights

  • Discover the incredible underwater world of Barcelona while contributing to the conservation of Spain’s coastal ecosystem.
  • Become CMAS certified or enhance your current diving skills by completing specific scuba diving training modules.
  • Explore Barcelona during your free time.
  • Make meaningful international connections.

This program welcomes families with children aged 14 and older. The project accommodates between 8 and 14 volunteers.

Your Role

As an ocean conservation volunteer, you will use and develop your scuba diving skills while actively contributing to the restoration of the natural state of marine ecosystems in Catalonia and the broader Mediterranean Sea.

Daily tasks may vary depending on the time of year but may include:

  • Cleaning the seabed to reduce debris.
  • Recording information about collected objects and waste.
  • Removing marine organisms from collected debris and returning them to the sea.
  • Documenting and collecting data on marine wildlife.
  • Participating in educational activities to improve knowledge about marine ecosystems and their protection.
  • During the summer, you may also have the opportunity to assist in summer camps
for underprivileged children by developing workshops focused on the sea and the environment.

In summary, as a volunteer on this project, you will take part in various marine conservation activities. These include survey dives, scientific dives, emergency dive simulations, and may also involve photographing fish and other marine life.

The program includes all diving equipment. However, if you hold an advanced certification and plan to participate in deep or night dives, you must bring your own dive light.
