Freepackers offers you an education project at the heart of a humanitarian children’s association in Africa; our partner is located in Cape Verde.
Discover all our humanitarian project programs. For the 42 children distributed across the 3 kindergarten and primary school classes, supervision and educational programs are handled by only 7 teachers, which explains the significant need for volunteers. Unfortunately, Cape Verde is often affected by severe droughts, leading to major economic and social issues.
Your day starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
Volunteers and interns primarily assist local teachers in their daily tasks with the children. Those with experience (BAFA, teaching studies, etc.) and those fluent in Portuguese will be given additional responsibilities. All participants take on-site classes to learn a few Portuguese words upon arrival.
Here are some examples of missions you may carry out:
The whole school year.
Duration during the week | Budget total mission |
---|---|
2 weeks | 1090 € |
3 weeks | 1445 € |
4 weeks | 1860 € |
6 weeks | 2540 € |
8 weeks | 3320 € |
10 weeks | 4150 € |
12 weeks | 4980 € |
A supplement of €200 applies to participants aged under 18. For more information, meet on the youth area.
The project is located a 20-minute drive from Tarrafal. Volunteers in the turtle project are accommodated in a volunteer house with shared bedrooms and bathrooms (not mixed gender).
The volunteer accommodation consists of 4 dormitories with a maximum of 4 beds per room.
The house is located approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the school and the beach.
Another house near the school is reserved for families.
Both houses are equipped with WiFi and hot showers.
Meals
Food is included in the project. You will have the opportunity to enjoy local dishes cooked with a good atmosphere at the volunteer house (local style).
Vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free meals are also available upon request.
Local Life
There are many activities around the island, such as:
– Diving
– Kayaking
– Camping
– Barbecue sites
– Treks and hikes
– Restaurants and bars
– Sports activities like yoga or volleyball
(Additional budget should be allocated for these activities).
It is also important to know that in Cape Verde, the culture and habits are different from European habits. Punctuality, for example, is very relative.
At least five days before your arrival in Cape Verde, you must pre-register on the dedicated government platform www.ease.gov.cv. An airport security tax of 3,400 escudos (€30.83) must be paid. It is advised to keep a proof of payment of this tax to present upon request upon arrival in Cape Verde.
