Teaching projects in Nepal

Provide your support in nurseries and schools in Nepal, in the city of Kathmandu. You will assist the local staff in their daily tasks and teach children various subjects such as English, as well as organize fun and engaging activities!

You can choose between 2 teaching programs: the first in a nursery with children aged 3 to 6, and the second in a school with older children.

 

Your Role

Whether you join the nursery or school project, your role is to support the local staff. Here are the tasks you will be involved in:

  • Help local teachers manage daily activities, plan lessons, and handle classroom management.
  • Teach written and spoken English and other subjects using both textbooks and interactive methods.
  • Engage children through fun and educational games.
  • Organize creative activities such as storytelling, music, arts, and games.
  • Encourage students to take part in sports and outdoor activities.
  • Contribute to improving classroom organization by ensuring a safe and stimulating environment.

 

You will have the freedom to use various teaching methods, ranging from structured lessons based on the curriculum to interactive learning through conversation, music, arts, and games.

Subjects may include English, mathematics, history, science, geography, computer science, and environmental awareness.

 

Sample Schedule

From Monday to Friday, you will give 4 to 5 lessons per day. Here are the various tasks you will carry out in a day:

  • Coordinate with teachers and assist in implementing the daily schedule and activities.
  • Help children improve their skills in various subjects.
  • Teach English according to their level.
  • Organize engaging and playful activities for the children.

ONCE THERE

Your accommodation

You will be accommodated in a house with other volunteers, in shared rooms (4–6 people). The house has a bathroom (towels are not provided). Laundry facilities are available at an extra cost. A kitchen with a refrigerator is available, as well as a garden where you can spend time with other participants.

Wi-Fi is available in the common area.

The accommodation is located five kilometers from the city center of Kathmandu, where you can find everything you might need. There are many taxis and other forms of transport around the accommodation. You can easily catch one from the main road to get to the city center.

There are also several ATMs nearby. The nearest ATM and supermarket are about a 15-minute walk from the accommodation.

You’ll find lovely local cafés, grocery stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants near the accommodation.

 

Meals

Three meals a day on weekdays and two meals a day on weekends are included.

Meals are a mix of Western and Nepalese cuisine, mainly vegetarian dishes including rice and vegetables. You can expect a chicken dish about once a week.

Meals can be adjusted to meet your specific dietary requirements – please let us know in advance.

 

Local Life

You’ll be able to enjoy weekends and your free time exploring the area and immersing yourself in Nepalese culture. Many activities and excursions are available:

– Hikes and treks in the Annapurna region.

Visit the Annapurna Mountain in the Himalayas and Lake Phewa Tal.

Rafting and kayaking in the white waters of the Trisuli or Seti rivers.

Mountain biking and canyoning.

Visit temples such as the Tal Bahari Temple, also known as the jewel of the Himalayas.

Discover culinary specialties: Daal Bhat (red lentil soup), momos (vegetable or meat dumplings), and many more.

Visit Kathmandu and the Thamel district, full of Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian handicrafts, wood carvings, local crafts, and unique clothing.
