Summer camp: Sea turtle conservation in Costa Rica

This summer camp is ideal for young people aged 15 to 17 who want to contribute to the protection of sea turtles. The aim of this project is to preserve the beach environments where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. You have a role to play in these conservation efforts!

In addition to this project, you will take part in leisure activities with other participants to immerse yourself in the local culture!

The Volunteer Project

To help local teams protect sea turtles and their environment, your tasks are varied and may depend on the timing. In general, you will:

  • Protect new nests
  • Assist in flipper tagging
  • Participate in beach clean-ups
  • Help classify plastics
  • Release the newborn turtles!

More information about the activities and schedule is available in the brochure.

FAQ

Most youth camps follow a similar structure:

First day: upon arrival, teens are welcomed by the staff, introduced to the other participants, and given a tour of the facilities to help them feel comfortable.

Monday to Friday:

  • Morning: language classes (an average of 15 hours per week)
  • Afternoon: cultural and sports activities (visits, workshops, nature outings, etc.)
  • Evening: free time, games, and opportunities to connect with international participants

Weekend: excursions and visits to explore more of the country and practice the language in real-life situations.

Registering for a summer camp abroad is generally done in several steps:

  1. Choose a suitable program based on the teenager’s interests and language level.
  2. Check the registration requirements: age, language level, administrative prerequisites.
  3. Call with our team to guide you toward the right project and answer your questions.
  4. Complete an application form including information about the child, any specific needs, and parental authorizations.
  5. Plan the logistics: transport, visa, travel insurance, vaccinations if necessary.
  6. Finalize the registration and prepare for departure, making sure you have all the necessary equipment. Sports camps often require suitable clothing.
