In this community project for youth in South Africa, you can join 3 social projects in Cape Town School support, sports and surf coordinator
School support
You will be working alongside teachers in underprivileged neighbourhoods in Cape Town You will be supporting teachers in their daily tasks. You will be in charge of a group of young children, teaching them an activity of their choice, supervised by local staff. This could include theatre, dance, gymnastics, football, drawing, or any other activity that promotes personal development. Classes are given between 3 and 5 days either at school or after class depending on the profile of the participants.
Sports coordinator
In addition to the educational mission in the morning, you will occupy your afternoons with sporting activities. Sports classes help children on a daily basis to acquire skills such as teamwork and discipline and contribute to their well-being and development. You can participate in existing sports programs (skate, football, dance, boxing, swimming and spikeball) or teach children a new sport, one they don’t know or have never practiced. If the children show interest in this sport and have the ability to continue, we will continue this activity even after your departure. If specific equipment is required, you will either need to bring what you need, or raise money to finance it. For example, a volunteer brought boxing equipment to teach them non-contact boxing. It was a great success and this activity still exists today.
Surf instructor
Alternatively, you can fill your afternoons with surfing, swimming and skateboarding lessons after mornings at school. Sports activities are very popular amongst children aged between 12 and 14 years old. The club is open after school (from 1:30pm/2:30pm). Sports will be done on a rotation basis, for example 2 afternoons of surfing, 1 afternoon of swimming and 2 afternoons of skating.

Volunteers will be accommodated in one of our volunteer houses with rooms for 2 to 5 people. All houses are equipped with electricity, WiFi, hot water, a kitchen, shared bathrooms (with shower and toilet), beds with sheets and a pillow (no towels).
Volunteers are responsible for maintaining their own room and the volunteer house. Bathrooms are cleaned daily by cleaning staff, and linens are changed once a week. The houses are located a 5-minute walk from the beach and restaurants. The association staff are always at the hostel, assisting and guiding volunteers in all activities and organizing social events outside of missions.
Double and single rooms are also available to volunteers at an additional cost.
All educational projects in Cape Town are closed during the Christmas holidays, from mid-December to mid-January. Accommodation and meals are always included in the program, and the local team invites all participants to join them for Christmas dinner on December 25th if they wish.
During school holidays, children and volunteers participate in the Holiday Club, filling the children’s days with outdoor and educational activities.
