ONCE THERE

Arrival and Orientation

You will spend your first night in Cork at a hostel. Located in the city center, it is just a few minutes’ walk from shops and key landmarks. On the day of your arrival, you will have free time to rest and explore the surroundings.

On the morning of the second day, participants meet the local team at the hostel reception and attend an orientation session covering various aspects of the program, followed by a city tour.

At the end of the second day, participants are taken to the bus or train station to travel to their project location.

Your Accommodation

You will stay with a host family for full immersion in Irish culture. The homestay accommodation is limited to 16 weeks. For participants wishing to extend their stay, a combination of two programs is possible. In this case, you will be accommodated in a residence with other volunteers.

Each host family undergoes a rigorous selection process to ensure that our participants are placed in a warm and welcoming environment. Host families can take different forms: parents with children who have a spare room, a single mother, or a retired couple. They provide immediate support to participants and help them learn the local language and culture.

Most host families usually offer participants a private room. In some cases, participants may need to share a room with someone of the same gender. Many families live close to the projects, within walking distance, while others may be located a bit further away. In such cases, volunteers use bicycles, take public transport, or get rides from their host families.

Meals

All meals are included with the host family, except when traveling during your free time.
