In 2013, the Franz Weber Foundation (FFW) established the Sanctuary in the hills of Córdoba, in central Argentina, in response to the suffering endured by horses in Latin America.
This sanctuary, located on a 312-hectare property that includes lush meadows, forests, pastures, and a river, is a haven of peace, beauty, and freedom for animals. The number of animals on the project may vary at different times of the year.
The project aims to provide a refuge for horses that were previously used for garbage collection, as well as the medical care they need and to ensure their well-being.
This beautiful example of sustainable tourism strives to prioritize the careful and sustainable development of the sanctuary and its infrastructure, to accommodate a greater number of horses in need.
The project actively collaborates with authorities, particularly in the areas of confiscation and rescue of abused animals, as well as the rehabilitation of injured animals. It also works with educational institutions to educate the public and raise awareness about animal welfare issues.
Those who wish can choose to take Spanish courses for one week in Córdoba before starting the project.
This week is aimed at helping volunteers improve their language skills and discover the culture of the country.

The volunteer house on the project site is equipped with beds and a bathroom, with a capacity to accommodate 6 volunteers per room.
However, it is recommended that volunteers bring their own sleeping bag for added comfort during their stay.
The volunteer house has a kitchen where volunteers can prepare their meals.
The village is far from the accommodation and cannot be visited at any time.
Vegetarian meals are included in the project, and volunteers and staff dine together in the main house.
Volunteers also contribute to meal preparation and participate in cleaning tasks in the houses.
By encouraging a sense of shared responsibility, volunteers actively engage in maintaining a clean and organized environment, while fostering a sense of belonging to the community through shared meals and tasks.
Our international volunteer programs involve a fee to cover comprehensive support services that are essential for a smooth experience abroad. This includes pre-departure guidance, in-country logistics, accommodation arrangements, dedicated on-site coordination, and continuous emergency support. These fees directly contribute to the sustainability of our agency’s operations and ensure the high quality of your volunteer journey.
Conversely, local volunteers in Argentina participate without a fee because they are locally recruited, typically manage their own domestic logistics, and don’t require the same extensive international support infrastructure. Their invaluable contributions are vital to the community projects. This dual approach allows us to facilitate meaningful international engagement while simultaneously fostering local participation and strengthening community initiatives from within.
