Become a volunteer teacher in a humanitarian setting by working with local teachers and sharing your English knowledge with schools in Kenyan villages. Get to know the children and broaden your horizons together! Both students and teachers will greatly appreciate your contribution. As you immerse yourself in the school, community, and culture, this project is beneficial on both a personal and professional level.
Kenyan children, especially those in rural areas, rarely have the opportunity to meet and interact with people from outside their village. Most of them don’t even have the chance to practice English outside of school, even though it is one of the official languages of Kenya. Simply interacting and speaking the language correctly with them can be beneficial for their learning and increase their proficiency.
You will be placed in a local community school. Your assignment will depend on the community’s needs, availability at that time, and, to the extent possible, your preferences. Keep in mind that you may be responsible for some lesson planning tasks for the class where you assist the teacher. This can be done informally, giving you the freedom to be creative in classes, sports, games, gardening, and singing. If you have objects or photos that can help you share unique facts or traditions, it could be an excellent lesson to offer as part of this humanitarian teaching mission.
Please note that during long vacation periods when schools are closed, an English and sports program similar to a “day camp” may be organized for local children, and it will be managed by the participants with the assistance of our coordinators.

You will be accommodated in the volunteer house. Participants are expected to respect the environment and use all resources sparingly, especially electricity. There are occasional power cuts during the day, but don’t panic. That’s the village life. The water supply is always assured. You’ll have all the essentials at your disposal during your stay.
Meals are provided daily and rooms are cleaned at weekends, but you will also be expected to clean up after yourself and contribute to the order and cleanliness of the accommodation. The establishment is located close to Green Steds International School and a few minutes’ walk from the southern entrance to Lake Nakuru National Park. It is about 15 km from Nakuru town.
There are plenty of places to visit in your free time. For example, you can visit Thompson Falls in Nyahururu, hike the Hyrax Hills, hike Menengai Crater, check out the equator at Gwakung’u, visit Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Naivasha.
Airport pick-up and transfer to the project is included. Local transport for excursions will be the responsibility of participants.
