Marine conservation sailing holidays in Croatia

The tour

For one week you live as part of a sailing crew, setting off from Trogir marina. You learn the ropes, share the cooking and cleaning on board, anchor in remote bays and hop between islands, from Vis to the Pakleni Islands and Hvar.

The voyage has a clear purpose: looking after the sea you are sailing on. With mask and snorkel you locate and remove debris from the seabed, clean up isolated beaches and riverbanks, help log pollution hotspots and talk to other sailors about more sustainable practices. In between, the stops do the rest: Trogir’s UNESCO-listed old town, the Green Cave on Vis, Hvar, Stari Grad and a kayak trip on the Cetina.

The trip suits families, groups of friends and adults who want to see the Adriatic differently, at the pace of the wind and away from mass tourism.

Day by day

Day 1: welcome in Trogir

Welcome aboard at Trogir marina with a safety briefing, group introductions and the sharing out of tasks on board. A visit to a recycling facility, then to Trogir’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 2: first passage and snorkelling

Three to four hours' sailing to a remote anchorage. Snorkelling over the seabed to spot litter, then a visit to Tito’s submarine cave and the 18th-century Fort George. You learn about life on a yacht and how anchoring works.

Day 3: Vis and the first beach clean-up

Two hours' sailing to a new spot. Visits to Vis old town and the Green Cave, then to the island’s landfill to learn how waste is handled. First beach clean-up, at Stiniva or a nearby cove.

Day 4: the Pakleni Islands and Hvar

Exploring the Pakleni Islands, then a stop in Hvar Town. Sharing information on holding tanks and recycling with other boats, and a talk on local politics and the pressures of mass tourism.

Day 5: Stari Grad and a sustainable farm

A second beach clean-up, time in the town of Stari Grad, then a visit to Hora farm with a talk, a wine and oil tasting and dinner ashore.

Day 6: kayaking on the Cetina

A visit to the fort, kayaking on the River Cetina and a riverbank clean-up using the tender, before arriving in Omiš.

Day 7: Omiš and back to Trogir

Exploring Omiš, meeting the local team and sharing reflections as a group, then sailing back to Trogir.

Day 8: departure

A last visit focused on waste sorting and recycling, then check-out at 9am. The schedule may change with the weather and local conditions.

On site

Accommodation

You live on board the yacht for the 8 days and 7 nights of the trip, alongside the rest of the crew. Everyone pitches in with the jobs on board, from cooking to cleaning.

Meals

Meals are prepared on board by the crew, with participants taking turns in the galley. On day 5, dinner is ashore at Hora farm.

Arrival

The meeting point is Trogir marina, a 10 to 20 minute ride by taxi or bus from Split airport. This transfer is not included. On the last day, check-out is at 9am.
