Educational project in schools in Zanzibar

Educational project in schools in Zanzibar

You will be working with an NGO specialising in humanitarian education since 2016, helping to improve access to clean water, vaccinations, etc. This project aims to support local teachers and participate in children’s education by teaching them the basics of English as well as engaging them through games and sports. Our partners encourage you to be creative, share your ideas, and seek assistance. There will always be a professional on-site to guide and support students and volunteers.

The educational program in Zanzibar is a great way to immerse yourself with the local culture, give back, and have a truly incredible experience within a secure environment. By participating in this project, you will contribute to intercultural exchange and mutual enrichment. It is fascinating to engage with children about your home country, roots and traditions.

The days will be divided into two parts: in the mornings (8am-3pm), volunteers assist local teachers at the school, while the afternoons are dedicated to lesson preparation. Volunteers will be involved in mentoring children and youth aged 5 to 14. We encourage you to bring school supplies such as pencils, English books, photos/images to share with the children and create interactive activities within this humanitarian education NGO.

The on-site team was particularly friendly and welcoming, helping to create a warm and pleasant atmosphere. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to spend time with the children, an enriching experience that marked my stay.

ONCE THERE

Your Accommodation

In the volunteer house, the rooms are not co-ed (they will be separate for girls and boys) and can accommodate a maximum of 6 international volunteers.

It is important to note that there is no hot water or Wi-Fi in the volunteer house. We recommend buying a SIM card from a nearby store to stay connected.

A friendly reminder, tap water is not drinkable!

All meals are provided (local style). One of the most popular dishes is Biryani, originating from the Middle East and India.

Visa for Zanzibar

The local organisation recommends initially applying for a tourist visa. This visa can be obtained upon arrival for $50 USD.

Once on-site, participants should contact the project coordinator. The coordinator will then process the volunteer permit application at the immigration office for an additional fee of $30 USD.

It is also possible to apply for a volunteer permit for Tanzania online before travelling to the country, but please allow at least 3 months for processing and expect a cost of $250 USD.

Requirements

– Intermediate English

– Minimum age of 18

– Clean criminal record
