Maud talks about her animal volunteering experience in Namibia.
How to practice sustainable tourism? Wildlife volunteering!
Maud got involved in a wildlife reserve in Namibia for her animal volunteering: she shares her experience!
WHAT THIS SUSTAINABLE TOURISM EXPERIENCE BROUGHT ME…
This was my second experience with Freepackers, my first mission being Big 5 Conservation in South Africa.
Like the previous one, the mission in Namibia allowed me to improve my English, practice it all day long, and gain self-confidence in this area.
As an animal lover, I was able to get very close to wild animals and take part in their rehabilitation and protection—it was fascinating.
MY BEST MEMORIES…
It’s hard to choose because there were so many. I especially think of the walk with the 3 cheetahs, the activity where we fed the carnivores, and the absolutely stunning and peaceful landscapes of the Namib Desert.
IF I HAD TO RATE THE SERVICES FROM 1 TO 5…
- Pre-departure information: 5/5
- Registration process: 5/5
- Project coordination / supervisors: 2/5 – There were many volunteers, and I felt lost when I arrived. However, I really appreciated the personalized information sharing via WhatsApp, which allowed me to ask the coordinators questions privately.
- Volunteer schedule: 4/5 – The timetable is precise, but the activity schedule was a bit unclear at first.
- Meals and accommodation: 5/5 – The meals were very good, with options for all dietary needs. The tents were clean and well equipped (lockable doors, electricity).
DO I RECOMMEND FREEPACKERS?
ABSOLUTELY! Communication with Freepackers is smooth and easy, all the information is given in advance, and the project catalog is impressive.
So if you’re wondering how to practice sustainable tourism, here’s your answer :)
