Aëlle, a volunteer at an animal shelter in Ecuador: an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature

WHAT WERE THE TASKS ASSIGNED ON SITE?

During my volunteer work, I took part in the care of the animals: preparing their food, feeding them, and also cleaning the enclosures and living spaces. We also created enrichments to stimulate their natural behavior, and sometimes even training sessions to help with their rehabilitation. I had the chance to contribute to the release of some animals back into the wild, which was a highlight of the trip.

WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE BROUGHT ME…

This project allowed me to discover many species I didn’t know, to open myself up to a new culture, and to meet people from all over the world. I also gained a lot of independence: living in the heart of the forest, with a sometimes demanding daily routine, taught me to adapt and be resourceful.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PROJECT?

Yes, without hesitation. It’s an experience everyone should have at least once in their life, to reconnect with nature and give your time to a meaningful cause.
