Animal Humanitarian Association: Éléonore’s Animal Volunteering Experience at a shelter in Costa Rica, she tells her story!

 

WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE BROUGHT ME…

Personally, this experience allowed me to get to know myself better, to push my limits while being alone in a foreign country. It was my first experience, both traveling alone and volunteering at an animal shelter, and I loved it.

All I want now is to grab my backpack and leave again! It also helped me improve my English because we regularly spoke English with the other volunteers. So it was a rewarding experience in every way.

 

MY BEST MEMORIES…

My best memories, from a professional point of view, were being able to work with baby monkeys and share those moments with them; and from a personal point of view, it was the incredible meetings with people from different nationalities. It’s also a human experience.

 

 

IF I HAD TO RATE THE SERVICES FROM 1 TO 5…

• Information before departure: 2/5, because we don’t know the name of the shelter where we will volunteer until we have really committed to the project. There are not many photos on the website.

 

• Registration process: 5/5 — no issues, good communication, and easy.

 

• Supervision / project coordinators: 5/5 — we are well supervised and they trust us on-site!

 

• Volunteer schedule: 5/5 — the days are long and demanding but the two days off feel great.

 

• Accommodation: 5/5 — the rooms are clean and modern.

 

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PROJECT?

I would recommend this project to people who are interested and truly committed to the animal cause because the tasks are not easy but you know why you are doing them.
