Sea Turtle Conservation: Two Sisters in Nusa Penida
The Commitment of Aurélie and Lydie to sea turtle conservation in Bali
WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE BROUGHT US…
This experience made us more aware of the environment. We learned a lot about the life cycle of turtles and how to protect them. It also made us reflect on our lifestyles and showed us the importance of mutual support.
On a personal level, this experience was extremely enriching. Beyond the in-depth learning about turtles, it made us aware of environmental challenges, especially issues related to waste and plastic in the oceans. We also really appreciated the contact with the locals, whether the coordinators or the people of Nusa Penida. Their kindness and culture will remain memorable highlights of our trip.
WHAT TASKS WERE ASSIGNED ON SITE?
We participated in several important tasks, including beach cleaning, crab catching, fish preparation, cleaning of the pools, and feeding the turtles.

DO WE RECOMMEND THIS MISSION?
Yes, we recommend this mission. The coordinators are kind and passionate. However, I suggest doing it for a short duration, 2 to 3 weeks maximum. The tasks can become tiring and repetitive. Moreover, the volunteer group is very diverse, with many young people, so there can sometimes be differences in commitment among participants.
… AND FREEPACKERS?
Yes, the support from Freepackers was very good. Their overall assistance was appreciated and effective. The information was clear, and it’s nice to know they care about getting feedback on our experience.
