Emma volunteered for 3 weeks to protect turtles in Bali — she shares her story!
animal humanitarian work in Bali
Emma volunteered on an animal humanitarian project for sea turtles in Bali: here is her feedback!
WHAT WERE THE TASKS ASSIGNED ON SITE?
On site, we helped maintain the turtle center by cleaning their tanks. We took care of the turtles: washing them, feeding them, and checking if any were sick… To feed them, we also learned to catch crabs and to cut and clean fish. Twice a week, during half-days, we also carried out beach patrols to clean the beach and collect all the waste for recycling.
WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE BROUGHT ME…
This animal humanitarian project brought me a lot personally: discovering a different culture, meeting incredible people from around the world, developing adaptability, and improving my English fluency… Academically, we also learned many facts about turtles and more generally about the fauna and flora of Indonesia.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS MISSION?
Yes, I 100% recommend this mission because the on-site supervisors are wonderful and very attentive. The mission is perfectly adapted to Indonesia, and we really feel useful while carrying it out. The support and organization are excellent, and you feel completely safe even being on the other side of the world.
WOULD I RECOMMEND FREEPACKERS?
Yes, I recommend Freepackers because without them I wouldn’t have been able to do this mission. They bridged the gap between us and the Indonesian NGO on site and made our procedures easier — for the VISA, payment, tax deduction, departure arrangements… My entire stay was simplified thanks to Freepackers.
