Volunteer with Children in Laos

During this humanitarian trip to Laos, you will help in kindergartens, rural primary schools or with students up to 25 years old by teaching English and organizing fun activities for children… Feel free to be creative! You will have many opportunities to interact with the children, who may end up teaching you something in return!

You will work 3 to 4 hours a day in one of the two kindergartens (2 to 4 years old) or in one of the various schools (4 to 12 years old) where we provide our assistance by teaching the basics of English to children, organizing activities and helping the local staff. This is the perfect place to learn more about local culture and at the same time help communities.

Although we aim to follow a school curriculum, we also focus on informal teaching. You will have a few extra hours during the week to create lessons or activities for students. Courses can have a very diverse content, ranging from games, sports and music to crafts, life skills such as health, all while using the English language.

Objectives:

– Help understaffed teams and reduce the workload of local teams

– Share your experience working with children and gain skills

– Improve children’s education by learning English

On Monday of your first week on site, you will participate in our orientation day to familiarize yourself with the surroundings and local culture. You will participate in an introduction meeting: rules and regulations, expectations/wishes, health and safety advice, lessons on Laos’ way of life, culture and language. Then you will have a tour of the premises and the local area (local shops, SIM card…).

Several activities are organized during the week: a barbecue evening every Tuesday night, offering the perfect opportunity to relax and exchange with other participants! A movie night at the accommodation every Wednesday night. A restaurant evening on Thursdays to enjoy one of Southeast Asia’s favorite activities: karaoke.

Culture:

Like its neighbors Cambodia and Thailand, Theravada Buddhism is the dominant form of religion in Laos and has a significant influence on Laotian culture, playing a role in its language, art, literature, and performing arts.

It is a country that has preserved its authenticity and traditions, more than some of its neighbors who are becoming more and more modernized and succumbing to the West. Another good reason to participate in this humanitarian trip to Laos.

Everything went really well! We had a presentation on the first day on the culture of Laos and a mini course to learn the language. Everyone is very nice and takes good care of us. And the kids are super cute!

ONCE THERE

Accommodation

Laos is a UNESCO world heritage site, our base location is in a guesthouse in the centre of Laos. Accommodation facilities are shared dormitories and can be considered basic.

Live with other participants from around the world in the ancient city of Luang Prabang, among Buddhist temples, rolling hills, and the mighty Mekong river. The base is situated at a quaint guesthouse, with an outdoor space where participants can relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere of the capital of Laos. Project work continues from Monday to Friday at local educational centers around town and meals are available at restaurants on base. In your free time learn more about the many cultures of Laos, by taking additional language lessons, exploring nearby temples, or visiting a rice farm. Bond with new friends while visiting the beautiful Si Kuang falls or taking a river cruise down to the historic Pak Ou Caves, filled with thousands of images of the Buddha.
